School term dates are set by the local education authority following consultation with
(amongst others) schools, neighbouring authorities and groups representing teaching and
other staff.
School term and holiday dates are determined in
accordance with the legal requirement, which require that there should be 190 pupil days
(one day less in 2011/12 because of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee). In addition, staff should
be available for work on a further five days (INSET days) during the year.
