Wroxton Local History Project

OPEN EVENING WITH WINE

Dear Fellow Wroxtonian

As you will be only too aware Wroxton is a village steeped in history. It has connections with Trinity College Oxford, was home to the North family (one of whom notoriously presided over the loss of our American  colonies) and was the site of an ancient Priory. Alongside this grand

history, it also has a rich and varied vernacular history which deserves to be preserved for the enjoyment of the locals and our many visitors to Wroxton.

A site is obviously needed to house the envisaged resource centre/mini museum and it seems equally obvious that All Saints church is the ideal place. The building is open to all whether they are inhabitants of the village or visitors of which Wroxton, being so picturesque, has its fair share. Under the leadership of Reverend Reader, who is keen to have the church building put to community use, a small committee has been set up to launch the Local History Project.

Initially the aim is to set up an exhibition in time for the village festival at the beginning of September. However it must be stressed that this is an on-going project and also that it is a community

project for the whole village. There are so many themes that can be studied that no committee could undertake to do all the work.

It is proposed to hold an Open Evening in church on August 3rd from 5pm to 9pm, with wine and nibbles, when we hope that people will bring artefacts, pictures and anything else of interest (memories even) that could be displayed at the exhibition in September. There will be proper display cases for these items to keep them safe. If need be copies will be made should people prefer that. At the same time there will be information on how to research your house, a list of ideas that could be researched and more details about the exhibition and about how it is hoped that a resource centre, where people can come and study our local history, will be developed over time.

Even if you do not have any artefacts to offer, we still very much hope to see you at the Open Evening so that we can explain the long term aims and goals of the project.

With Kind Regards from the Local History Project Committee
