Balscote (sometimes spelt Balscott) is situated a mile West of the
A422, some 6 mile to the West of Banbury
The village has a population of about 200. It has an attractive
Church of England Parish Church and Methodist Chapel. There
is a proper village Public House. Behind the pub is the intended site for a village hall for which they are raising funds, a challenging project for such a small village.

In villages, nothing is simple! The southern end of Shutford Road is known as Balscote England to the older residents. There are only 2 houses on what the Electoral Roll indicates as Alkerton Road, but older villagers know it as Mill Lane. Shutford Road is known by Highways Dept. as a continuation of Langway. The first turn into Balscote has no houses on it, but it is known by villagers as the Slad.
